GREEN SAILING UNFOLDED AT FLORALIES INTERNATIONALES DE FRANCE
2nd PRIZE
The installation designed for the Euroflora 2025 exhibition area at Floralies Internationales intends to interpret the general theme of the event “plant games” and preview one of the symbols of the Genoese event. The aesthetic and construction quality of the project was awarded second prize in the “flower games” category.
Green Sailing Unfolded for the first time reveals Origami to the public, a concept of lightness structured through simple procedures, a “serious” game capable of transforming a daily practice into artistic expression. It interprets the paper boat that we all built as children as the basis for a green installation that connects the horizontal and vertical planes.

Description
Presented for the first time at the 13th Floralies Internationales, Green Sailing Unfolded is the temporary installation that intends to reveal to the public one of the key elements of Euroflora 2025. The work that takes the form of the paper boat that we all built as children, becomes sculpture, architecture and icon with a large-scale wooden and iron structure, born from the assembly of simpler parts and embellished by the greenery.
Plants of the Mediterranean flora, perennial herbs, tradescantia, flowering sage, lantana, gaura in shades of pink, white and purple were placed at the base of the structure to recreate the foam of the rippling waves. Panels of saedum and grids of tillandsia, instead, were set in the sails to relate the horizontal plane (sea) to the vertical one (sail).
The design, taken care of in the smallest details, has allowed to create an aesthetically beautiful work, consistent with the general theme of the event and original in the project concept and in the selection of plants and materials used. The work Green Sailing Unfolded intends to be the spokesperson of the creative process, interpreting Origami as that “Game” capable of transforming simple figures into complex three-dimensional structures, and everyday objects such as simple sheets of paper into unique and unrepeatable works of art.
Origami is a clear and “iconic” image, with a value mainly of visual image, but capable of occupying its own space by acquiring a tactile dimension and of continuous modification and interaction with the user. The sheet of paper, from which it originates, represents a material by definition light and thin, devoid of any structural characterization; the fold, the artificial operation, by bringing together previously distant surfaces, gives that light material its own spatial conformation. In the project this strategy was interpreted as a gradual transition from the mass of the soil to the lightness of the air, transposing the green elements onto an elegant structure that points towards the sky.
